Vanaheim | Norse Mythology

vanaheim

Vanaheim (Old Norse Vanaheimr) was the realm of the Vanir (fertility gods). They were the oldest branch of the two families of gods in Norse mythology. The other, younger family branch were the Aesir (battle gods), who lived in Asgard, far away from Vanaheim.

Shortly after creation, the Vanir and the Aesir fought for supremacy. After the Aesir's victory, peace was established by an exchange of a number of gods on both sides. The Vanir sent the sea god Njord and his two children Freyr and Freya as well as the sage Kvasir to Asgard. The Aesir sent Hœnir and the sage Mímir to Vanaheim.
